John Monteiro

NKG is pleased to present the masterful and whimsical drawings of Bostonian artist John Monteiro. John Monteiro is a very rarely seen phenomenon: a master of the line and form.
His images cannot be appreciated at all when seen via digital means. In the same manner that a breathtaking sunset can never be totally captured in a photograph, so a reproduction of his work cannot capture the power and beauty of the lines he so meticulously creates with his hand.

Manuella Muerner-Marioni

Opening Reception, Thursday, May 10, 2012. 6-8 PM

"Fascinating for anyone interested in the piano, music or art, the sculptures of Penny Putnam and Shauna Holiman are both intricate and beguiling, taking what looks on the surface like a familiar form and transporting it into the realm of Surrealism."
John Rockwell, Former Arts Critic, New York Times

smooth transitions between hues illustrate her exceptional skill.

Leon Nicholas Kalas

Painting to me is a life force not a carrier. My work consist mostly of figurative and portrait paintings, however, I do experiment in various art movements; pure abstract, abstract expressionism, minimalism, symbolism, and conceptualism.

Art Meets Poetry and Vice Versa

Inspiration for paintings versus writing comes from the same place in the brain and for me the stimulus is normally somewhat similar. The big difference is that words for me come from varied glimpses-on the way to work I can see multiple images and there is no specific reasoning or place or thought-the words create themselves and the images collected are weaved throughout a series of poems-no one would see the image or anything specific about the scene but all the elements appear either symbolically or even representational.

Sculpting with Words

Text, stories and voices are used as sculptural materials, whilst forms and lines are created with sentences. With a fascination in narratives, secrets and moments, Nicola Anthony’s work is inspired by language, memory, mapping, collecting, biological references & literary sources. Her sculptural works & drawings possess delicate, rich and sometimes chaotic forms, built up & constructed through layers of detail & assemblage.

What is behind that empty space?

The geometrical essence of objects and space always has a distorted perspective, due to our own perception. Images enter our brain up side down and are corrected unnoticed. The question that drives and fascinates me is:
