Born in Canada, 1974.
A self-taught painter of disappearing peoples, wildlife and landscapes, Hayward says, “I can’t imagine a more varied, colorful, richer world than our planet. I have no formal art training –the natural world, in all its color and texture, is my tutor. I aspire to convey some of the diversity I encounter in the everyday: the insignificant patch of nature passed by, unnoticed, during a commute to work.” His search of subjects has taken him from British Columbia, Canada, to the Republic of China, where he now resides, splitting his time between teaching and painting.
Even here, it’s possible to find beauty amongst the chaos of modern urbanization and industrial revolution: “Though my first love will always be North American subjects, I’ve more recently desired to document Mans' relationship with nature in settings where natural beauty seems uncommon.” Ted Hayward has exhibited works throughout the US and Asia: at The Nabi Gallery (New York City), The Merton D. Simpson Gallery (NYC), and at The Infusion Gallery (Los Angeles). Recently commissioned by recording artist, Andre Nobels, for the albums, “Soul Fever” (2004) and "Welcome to the Main Event" (2010), his paintings are published in Art Buzz (2010 and 2009), Best of Worldwide Artists 2010 Mixed Media (Vol. I), The 2010 Visual Art Collector’s Edition, The 2011 Best of the Best (Kennedy Publishing), and Direct Art Magazine (Vol. 17). Recent accomplishments include winning 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes in the 2009 and 2010 American Art Awards (Acrylics), and “Art Buzz Publications, The 2010, and 2011 Collections.”
Current projects include pioneering a radically-new digital, interactive art form, “Multi-Sensory Moving Art,” in a partnership with infoTAG Technologies of Austin, Texas.
Never receiving a formal education until high-school, young Ted Hayward was finally home-schooled after constantly being expelled “for drawing on his desk, books, fellow students…completely oblivious to anything else in the classroom.” Hayward’s love of paint started when he worked for five years as a clerk at a Benjamin Moore paint shop. “It was my job to match paint colors and address technical problems –literally, to watch paint dry!” Past careers have included welding, teaching, and acting.
Works can be viewed at the Mall Galleries, London (June 6 -11), and at the Limner Gallery, New York (May 5 –May 29).
