Leon Nicholas Kalas

Painting to me is a life force not a carrier. My work consist mostly of figurative and portrait paintings, however, I do experiment in various art movements; pure abstract, abstract expressionism, minimalism, symbolism, and conceptualism.

Art Meets Poetry and Vice Versa

Inspiration for paintings versus writing comes from the same place in the brain and for me the stimulus is normally somewhat similar. The big difference is that words for me come from varied glimpses-on the way to work I can see multiple images and there is no specific reasoning or place or thought-the words create themselves and the images collected are weaved throughout a series of poems-no one would see the image or anything specific about the scene but all the elements appear either symbolically or even representational.

Sculpting with Words

Text, stories and voices are used as sculptural materials, whilst forms and lines are created with sentences. With a fascination in narratives, secrets and moments, Nicola Anthony’s work is inspired by language, memory, mapping, collecting, biological references & literary sources. Her sculptural works & drawings possess delicate, rich and sometimes chaotic forms, built up & constructed through layers of detail & assemblage.

What is behind that empty space?

The geometrical essence of objects and space always has a distorted perspective, due to our own perception. Images enter our brain up side down and are corrected unnoticed. The question that drives and fascinates me is:

Art In Motion

Ingo Leth works in different disciplines including acrylic or oil paint on canvas combined with natural materials like paper and sand. In his work exists a cadence of colour, energy, and a spontaneous exuberance for the medium that is captivating and visually exciting. The organic and instinctive style, fluid and visceral in presentation reveals a heightened understanding of structure and composition to express emotional tenor.
His work is often figurative, realistic, and abstract.

Active Valuing in Art Museums

Children learn more easily with hands on experiences. Art Museums find it difficult to engage their interests and make visits worthwhile. Partly due to the amount of energy and shorter attention spans that children have, it also relates to their natural curiosity, often expressed in loud voices accompanied by the urge to touch. These behaviors can easily disrupt other patron’s visits. Without proper preparation before or supervision during the visit, children may feel unwelcome and uncomfortable in art galleries.

Toyism, a movement in Art started in The Netherlands in 1992.

Toyism is a movement in Art started in The Netherlands in 1992. Toyism Philosophy, known as Toyismolophy is a style or direction in art that does not arise from one day to another, but often evolves as a compliment or reaction to other styles. In addition, the notions of different cultures or a combination thereof generate various ideas and ideologies that can lead to a particular movement. The ego era in which we have lived for quite some time now was for me one of the major reasons to take a different course.

Narrative Art: Everyone Likes A Good Story, Don’t They

David Blackwood one of Canada's most respected visual storytellers, presented an award winning retrospective show at the AGO. I rallied at his much deserved recognition as I follow in this highly espected tradition of art. From the beginnings of history artist's have depicted their world beginning with the earliest known, the cave paintings from a hunting society. Religious scenes, historic battles, portraits of the famous kings, patrons, generals, etc. have followed. Subjects tearing the souls of artists have joined this school, such as Picasso's Guernica.
